Output the element to the console.

We told JavaScript to find the element with the page class on the page, but how can we tell that it really found it? And how do we know if it found the right one? To do this we need to use the console.

The console is a developer tool that will help us to test our code. If an error occurs during the execution of the script, an error message will appear in the console. You can also output text to the console. In our interface, the console is located to the right of the code editor, between the mini-browser and the task list. In order to see messages in the console, you need to expand it by clicking on the icon on the right.

Console
TasksCompleted: 0 of 3

To output a message to the console, you need to use the console.log:

console.log('Hi from JavaScript!');

When we execute this instruction, the message Hi from JavaScript! appears in the console.

You can output more than just text to the console, but also the results of your executed instructions. For example, the following element that was found using querySelector:

console.log(document.querySelector('.page'));

The instructions have turned out to be long and complicated, but we will soon figure out how we can simplify them. In the meantime, let’s get down to testing code. This is the so-called program creation stage, when we test that everything works as it should. This is no less important than writing code.

Let’s make sure that JavaScript has found the correct element, and at the same time let’s practice working with the console.
